17s Won the Gold in the Silver Bracket - Placing 9th in Open

Hello Volleyball Enthusiasts

Another long weekend of volleyball and many things to talk and think about.  First of all thanks to Brenda for a great choice in hotels.  It was a great place with an even greater location.  Here is a brief account of the weekend for 17's.
We had a good pool on Saturday.  We went 3-0. One of the teams in the pool  ended up finishing 3rd overall in the tournament .  Sunday's pool was even tougher. In our pool was the eventual tournament winner.  We went 1-2 along with 2 other teams which meant we had a 3 way tie and needed to play more volleyball on Sunday.  We won the 1st tie breaker match but lost a tough 2nd tie breaker match.  With the loss we ended up in the silver bracket for Monday.  After a slow start in our first set on Monday we picked up the tempo and cruised through to sweep that match and continued the upbeat pace in our final match of the weekend and swept that match also.  We ended up finishing 9th over all for the weekend.

Hopefully this weekend was also a learning experience for our team.  We saw some pretty poor behavior from other players and coaches.  We saw some questionable decisions made by tournament officials.  I'm hoping the girls realized that there are always going to be calls or decisions in volleyball and in life made that we might not agree with but that we need to move on and control what we can control.  One of the calls that went against us actually made one of players quite happy,  Kate is one of our DS/L and is about 5'3 and she was called for a back row attack.  We can only hope she does not show up at our next practice telling us she wants to hit middle.  Once again our TEAM had a good showing both on and off the court and I look forward to our next practice where we can continue to work on constantly getting better.
